OUT OF LINE 2018-2019, Ink On Paper, Rope, Felt Pen On Paper
This work began with stripping things away. Less color, fewer materials. Ink and pen, nothing else. Just the line. I came to art from graphic design. Years of rules, grids, of work that had to be legible and controlled. This series was my way out of that. I let the line move without a plan, without a brief, without anything to serve but itself. The drawings are figurative, made entirely from line, most in felt-tip marker, some in ink. Alongside them, a rope installation grew out of the same instinct: knotted, loose, a face built from tension instead of ink.
Design had taught me control. This taught me to let go of it.
